Starting from the Elkhorn Tavern, travel southeast down historic Huntsville Road. Soon, you will come upon a field with a trail to your right. This is Clemens Field, which despite its small size saw its own bloody engagements during the first day of the Battle of Pea Ridge.
Under heavy Union fire, Confederate soldiers advanced shoulder to shoulder not once but three times, to disastrous results. After successfully repelling the Confederacy, Union troops fell back to regroup in Ruddick's Field. This set the scene for the chaos that would ensure there later that evening.
